Google & OS
I see that Google have updated their terms of service (again). I think that’s the third version in as many weeks. It seems they are trying to appease Ordnance Survey but I’m not convinced that much will change…we’ll see
Google thoughts are here:

Sporting success
We are really proud of Callum as he won first tennis tournament on Sunday. He then followed that up by wining his second today – 2 in two weeks!

Lookalikes
I had to laugh earlier. Callum came to find me to tell me that Dr. Who was on the news. It turned out to be Robert Peston, the BBC’s business editor, but I could see where he was coming from…

A tale of two halves
Our allotment s a place of mixed emotions. Some days it’s simply depressing – digging, weeding, caterpillars, white fly, black fly, carrot fly. But then comes a day that makes it all worthwhile. Yesterday I picked courgettes, cauliflower, french beans, broccoli, pumpkin, swede, a fabulous cabbage and one HUGE parsnip.
I should just add that I can’t take too much of the credit for our successes – Jean does most of the hard work, I come come along and pick things!

ArcGIS and Google Maps
I’ve been wondering lately about Google Maps and ArcGIS. I use ArcGIS as my desktop mapping system and it’s very powerful. However, the currently implementation of it on our website is clunky. What I’d really like is to query our ArcGIS data and display it on a nice Google Map…and I may just have found a way.
Now I don’t pretend to understand all the techie stuff but this certainly looks promising:
Using Google Maps to Visualize ArcGIS Data & Services on the Google Developers blog.

Well, here goes…
After a really interesting presentation at work by Carl Haggerty about the benefits of social media I thought I would take the plunge. But with this, Flickr, Facebook, Twitter etc etc it’s all a bit overwhelming. Still you’ve got to start somewhere.
What do I want from all this ‘new’ stuff? Well, I want to find people doing similar stuff to me (either work related or not) nd learn from what they are doing. If these sites can do anything then surely stopping wheel re-inventing has to be it.
The first thing I want to look at is people using Google Maps and Google Earth. What are they using it for and how can I adapt that to my work – making the data and information of a county council interesting and meaningful.
